A proud veteran, he was a lifelong member of The Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 35, Manahawkin, NJ, was a Life Member of Submarine Veterans, WWII, Gudgeon Chapter, and a lifelong member of US Submarine Veterans, Inc. A man of faith, Robert served on the Board of Governors for the Spray Beach Chapel, and a past deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Tuckerton, NJ.
He continued with that unit to Port Morsbey and Hollandia, New Guinea aboard the Seventh Fleet Command Ship, U.S.S.
They joined the Pine Shores Art Association in Manahawkin. She was a member of the Kynett United Methodist Church of Beach Haven and a huge Phillies fan! What he was most proud of was his service during World War II in the U.S. Army, he served in the Solomon Islands and the Philippines, after 18 months of active duty he was shot in the head and spent a year in the Hospital recovering. She is survived by her two daughters, Tracy Marshall-Rojo and her husband, Fernando of Atlanta, GA and Kelly Marshall-Johnston and her husband James of Wallingford, PA, granddaughters Madison Rojo and Jamie Johnston along with her sister, Elaine Good and her husband Ronald of Tallahassee, FL. Born and raised in Bayonne, he relocated to Long Beach Island where he was the proud owner and operator of the Ship Bottom Motor Lodge for 20 years. When Slade Dale sold his Yacht Basin, Walt started his own business in 1959 – Hance & Smythe with a former co-worker, Harry Smythe. Brant Beach, NJ.
